In the barn, Emily sat with Buddy in her arms, running her hands over his softness. All the cares and worries on her mind floated away. There was something magical about stroking a pet, especially one that was as gentle and calm as Buddy.
As dusk fell, she put the rabbit back in the cage and carefully secured it. She detoured around the stable to pat Midnight and say good night to Bluebonnet. âSorry Iâve been ignoring you lately,â she said, pulling out the last apple slice from her pocket and giving it the horse. âI still love you.â Then she headed into the house, feeling content and relaxed. Sheâd taken good care of Buddy today. Only eight more days to go.
